The crash

The plane took off at 06:00 in the morning. Under way the plane flew into a fierce snowstorm and the pilot experienced engine trouble, so he turned south for Park City. The pilot spotted a potential landing spot, but the planes landing gear sank in the snow and the plane flipped over. The fuel tank ruptured and fire ensued. The pilot and the passenger were rescued from the burning plane by local citizens.

 

The mail

The plane carried 36 mail bags with 475 kg of mail. All the mail was recovered and returned to the main post office in Salt Lake City for further processing. In general the mail was in relatively good condition with some items showing signs of fire or water damage.
