The crash

The plane took over the mail in Karachi on 31st October and after stops in Jodhpur and Calcutta it arrived at Rangoon at 12:15. Due to the wet runway the plane skidded and crashed into the boundary fence, damaging the starboard wing tip, cabin floor and nose. The plane was unable to continue the flight.

 

The mail

On board was mail which left Croydon, England on 26 October 1935 and mail loaded on board at Brindisi, Italy.
After the crash the mail was transferred to the plane G-ABPI Arethusa which continued the flight with two days delay.
At least eight covers to Australia are recorded from this incident. These include mail from the UK, South Africa, Sweden, Germany, Greece, Egypt and India.
