The crash
The plane departed from Copenhagen at 09.25. When getting closer to Frankfurt the pilot reported problems with one of the engines. The problem was so serious that it was difficult to maintain a safe altitude, so the pilot decided to make an emergency landing. The weather conditions were poor and at 12:20 during the descent the plane hit a 400 meter high mountain slope on the Vogelberg near Ulrichstein around 60 km. from Frankfurt. On impact the tail section broke off and 9 passengers seated in the back were able to escape the burning wreck.
The mail
According to the Danish Post the plane carried ordinary mail from Denmark destined for Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Spain. All the mail on board must be assumed to have been lost.
