Cover from Santiago de Chile on 02/05/1963 for air transmission to Athens, Greece, found in a field (meadow) near Frankfurt airport, Germany for unknown reason (theft or loss of mail bag?). This was one of very few items addressed to Greece. Handed over to Frankfurt Post Office, which forwarded the item to the Central Post Office in Athens with a request, dated 14.5.63, to be delivered to the addressee.
Backstamped ΑΘΗΝΑΙ ΑΦΙΞΙΣ 20.ΜΑΙ.63 (Athens Arrival, 20 May 1963. The Athens GPO translated the relevant German ‘Control Report Note No. D299/63’ into Greek, and sent a copy with the cover to the final destination.
Addressee was found and asked to check content; ms dated undersigned confirmation that ‘Content found in order; 1.6.63’.
